Malawi Hospital to benefit from Internet Cafe courtesy CRS
Mua Hospital in Malawi is soon to receive a fully equipped internet café facility, courtesy of CRS, an Irish cold storage company. CRS produces cold storage solutions for a variety of sectors including the food, catering, medical and pharmaceutical cold storage industries.
Through Dr. Valerie Donnelly, a Mount Carmel Hospital obstetrician, CRS has established a long-standing relationship with the Malawi charity ‘Mua Hospital Appeal.’
CRS will transport the container, filled with medical equipment, to the hospital as well as the computer equipment needed for the internet café. The pharmaceutical cold storage container has been configured as an internet café equipped with 8 computer stations and an area for dining.
The pharmaceutical contents will be transferred to the hospital on arrival and then the container will be placed on a hard based and used as an internet café.
This make shift café will be accessible to both patients and the local community who have restricted internet access. The transformed pharmaceutical cold storage container will also be used by tourist vising the Kungoni visitor centre which is a popular tourist destination.
The funds generated through the internet café will be used to support and provide on-going funding for the hospital.
Dr. Donnelly stated that “this contribution from CRS will make a tremendous difference to the lives of the patients of Mua Hospital, and the community in general.
This creative idea, to take a trailer full of medical equipment destined for the hospital and to then transform it into a walk-in facility is a very cost-efficient way of putting valuable donations to good use. The staff at the hospital and the people in the local community are very excited at the prospect.”
Patrick Tyrrell of CRS explained that CRS were ‘delighted to be in a position to contribute to this much need facility,’ and that local jobs will be created as a result. Enough donations were collected to ensure the pharmaceutical cold storage container will be finned with a sufficient amount of medical supplies.
CRS have provided cold storage solutions such as portable and blast freezer facilities, for a decade. Based in Ireland, CRS also offer pharmaceutical cold storage from their offices in Bedfordshire. Please call 0800 085 2298 for more information, of visit the CRS website.
