What is Litho Printing?
Litho Printing is a separate type of printing from Digital Printing. Offered by some major printing companies like Orbital Print, Litho Printing uses a variety of stencils and intermediates to transfer the ink onto the printing paper, whereas digital printing will just directly apply the ink to the paper via inkjet or laser.
What does litho printing involve?
Litho Printing originally used stones or cut pieces of metal or wood as stamps or stencils to allow the ink to be transferred to the paper accurately. As times moved on, the ability of the process to use better materials was enhanced, and now that litho printing is making a return, not just from the art world, plastics and polymers were developed to now be used much more commonly. This would allow the ink to transfer even smoother in each print.
When is litho printing used?
Litho Printing was the traditional way of mass printing information in the past, although with the dawn of the digital age, digital printing was soon invented and overtook litho printing in popularity. This was because it was cheaper, less time consuming, and didn’t involve sorting out the intermediates between the ink and the paper.
However, more recently, some companies have begun to offer more litho printing services for business you need to print many identical copies of a certain document, because the time restraints from making the intermediates are lowered if the batch for printing is huge in number.
