Preserving natural gas with gas meter cabinets
Within our homes and places of work we rely heavily on fossil fuels for everyday activities including cooking, heating and driving to and from work.
Without these fuel sources, even the most basic of tasks would become extremely difficult. With the turn of a switch, we can have natural gas flowing freely to our hobs or central heating systems, helping us to prepare a meal for the family or to take a relaxing bath.
Natural Gas formation
Natural gases are formed over thousands of years in a process involving great heat exposure and pressure. Layers of plants and animals buried under the ground mixed with present gases including methane form the basis of the natural gases we use in everyday activities.
Natural gases are not a renewable source due to the length of time taken to produce the heavily relied upon fuel – longer than a human lifetime. These gases must be extracted from beneath the ground and the processed to remove any impurities before it can be used commercially.
Preventing Gas wastage
With such a relied upon gas and its low stores, it is important to ensure that the fuel isn’t wasted unnecessarily. Gas leaks are a common reason for natural gas wastage. These leaks can be caused because of damaged pipework including cracked pipes.
Cracked pipes are more common in external pipework due to weather exposure. Gas meter cabinets, for both internal and external use, could help protect pipework and gas meter equipment from damage. This could reduce the risk of a gas leak and unnecessary waste of such an important fuel.
