After receiving approval for a $718,000 city tax-increment incentive from Ferndale’s local government, Brass Aluminium Forging Enterprises LLC is set to undergo $8.8 million worth of renovations and construction projects. As expansion projects with the company get underway, the Michigan-based brass supplier hopes to use these renovations to expand its operating space and create nearly a hundred new jobs, fifty of which are permanent, to the city’s economy, and by extension the state of Michigan at large.
Brass Aluminium Forging Enterprises LLC (BAFE LLC) is a Michigan-based brass supplier, specialising in the production of brass, copper and aluminium forgings for a wide array of businesses, including weapons manufacture, and air and hydraulic fittings.
The Michigan Strategic Fund Advisory Committee approved plans which include the interior demolition and redesigning of a vacant building currently occupying around over 212,000 square-feet of operating space, and the construction of a new 100,000 square foot building in its stead. An old guard shack at the site would also be demolished, and turned into a potted plant. It is planned that BAFE LLC will occupy one half of the new building, while remaining space shall be turned over to the expansion of two other Ferndale businesses. The exact nature of the two businesses has yet to be disclosed by the Michigander brass supplier, and messages sent to the company have yet to receive responses.
BAFE LLC have reported, however, that the jobs will include skilled manufacturing with an average wage of $14 per hour, as well as engineering and supervisory jobs with salaries totalling at $78,000 a year. 50 of its 100 expected jobs will be permanent positions, while the remaining 50 will be contract-based jobs centred around the brass supplier’s construction and expansion.
