Improved safety with chequered plate

Safety at a place of work as well as within the home, must be considered as a high priority because of its importance. Surfaces that are prone to becoming slippery and creating a potentially large hazard should be well maintain to reduce the possible risk. The likes of outdoor stair cases are open to the elements including rain, frost and ice making them far more prone to becoming slippery and dangerous for users. Precautions should be put in place to reduce this risk, making such surfaces safer and less hazardous to use.

Chequered plate is a versatile material to use to help improve safety of any flooring. Also known as tread plate, this material is commonly used to because of its ‘non-slip’ qualities. Across the surface of the plate are raised diamond shaped protrusions which act as treads. These treads improve grip as they allow liquids such as rainwater to run in between the protrusions  whilst still providing a large surface area of material which has not been ‘covered’ by the potentially hazardous liquid. Chequered plate can be laid on a variety of surfaces to improve safety including garage floors – where oil and other car lubricants are likely to be spilt. Usually made from corrosion resistant aluminium, the chequered plate is hardwearing and easy to clean, making for an excellent floor covering when trying to improve safety in ‘accident prone’ spaces.

Companies such as Click Metal offer chequered plate in a range of thickness from 2mm through to 6mm. The plates can be cut to measure to suit your bespoke requirements, making it is far more flexible material to work with when improving the likes of garage floors, work van flooring and even public stair wells.
